If you decide you want to continue with me as your counselor, then we will discuss how to proceed forward with preliminary directions and goals for the following session(s). The short answer...it depends.
Counseling is dependent on your goals and outcomes. Many factors go into progress and growth, and everyone's counseling timeline is different - we all have unique circumstances. For some, counseling is utilized during times of need, then paused until needed again.
Ultimately, you decide how long you stay in counseling, and if it is helping you. If we decide to pause, you are more than welcome to rejoin at a later date!
Counseling will assist with treating mental health by psychological means, while a psychiatrist is a medical doctor that diagnoses mental illness and prescribes medication(s). They can both be utilized at the same time. This would look like a person coming to counseling for talk-based therapy, then going to the psychiatrist to check on diagnoses and be prescribed medication(s), if needed.
